Goals for Fall

Happy First Day of Fall!

Today marks the first official day it’s okay to drink Pumpkin Spice Lattes and wrap up in blanket scarves and maybe even bring out the booties.

Fall, more so than the other seasons, brings about a time of refreshing and renewing. For years I’ve been buying new school supplies and new planners and starting the year fresh during this time. In fact, it really holds more of a significance in that sense than New Year’s (that one’s reserved for my mom’s birthday!) because for as long as I can remember I’ve been given a clean slate this time of year.

While I don’t work on a semester schedule anymore, it still feels like the appropriate time to set a few fall goals.

That post 6PM thing is going better than expected but still not as great as I’d hope. It’s time to kick it into high gear.

I know, I know – cliché of the year. But really, during that offline time, I’d like to see myself curling up with my Kindle and lighting my favorite candle (and pouring a glass of red wine) to wind down my nights.

I was having the best time using my spiralizer and trying new recipes earlier this year, and all summer I just wanted to try new restaurants and go out with friends. Any recipes you recommend?

I am setting a serious goal of concentrating and listening and being present when I’m around people or on the phone with people. It’s so easy with all of the social media distractions and busy days to zone out and think about what’s next on the agenda or start browsing the web. I hate that I have started hanging up the phone and not remembering anything we discussed – it’s time for that to change!

I have been working on a post that will be coming in the next few weeks with a sincere, state-of-the-heart explanation about where I am in my life right now. Things over here can look nice and pretty – and thank Jesus they are a lot of the time – but that’s just not the everyday truth. I want to be more open with you guys about the struggles I have on a daily basis, and I hope we can connect through that.

Anyone else have any fall goals they’d like to share? I could always use a little accountability! If you want to read some others (who wouldn’t?) check out the gals linking up with their own seasonal goals today…

  1. I found your blog through The BBar linkup and am happy I did. You have great style and tons of recommendations for Charleston – I am heading there next spring for a girls trip. A fall night curled up with my Kindle sounds like an ideal night to me too! ~ Courtney

  2. LOVE these goals – we have the whole cooking thing in common. really trying to work on that. but in all seriousness, i’m looking forward to your posts in the next coming weeks because i know we will all be able to connect ONE WAY or another with them.

  3. Strong goals Ann! I hope that facetime doesn’t count as post 6pm screen time cause otherwise we’ll have to start having some EARLY morning catch ups 🙂 Excited to see what’s new in this season for you!

  4. Totally agree with fall being my restart period! I also am planning on doing some more reading this season. Great post, totally relate.

  5. When I started to communte, I easily could fulfil my reading dreams 😀 I spent at least two hours a day on public transport and I just read one book after the other. Now, I too read less then I would like but I don’t want the commuting back 😀
    Nice goals 😉

  6. Annie, I love this 🙂 I hear you on that last part and coming from experience, it feels so good to share the struggles you’re going through. After all, that’s what we’re here for!

  7. Summer kicked my butt on cooking. I am right there with you – all I wanted was to go out to restaurants with friends. I recently began a paleo lifestyle, so I’m excited to find some fun recipes to try!

  8. So inspired by your fall goals! As far as cooking- one of my go-to recipes (and what I’m making tonight!) is to mix up some spiralized zucchini, turkey meatballs, and tomato sauce to sautéed onions and bell peppers in an oven safe dish and let simmer on the stove for a few minutes. Then sprinkle some cheese on top and bake in the oven at 350 for about 10 minutes or until the cheese starts to brown a little. It’s so easy to throw together and tastes so good every time. Of course you could easily make it vegetarian too without the meatballs!

  9. Unplugging after 6pm sounds so nice! I’m the completely opposite of unplugging and I know I desperately need to start doing it more often!

  10. Love the idea of new goals for fall! Yours are great and can’t wait to hear a more personal post here. Looking forward to it 🙂

  11. I love the idea of unplugging! Fall is the perfect time to do just that. I want to get into reading more myself. I just bought Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. I can’t wait to dive in!

  12. Love your idea for winding down after a long day! I tend to do the rounds through my electronics before bed, but settling in with a good book, wine, and a candle sound far more delightful.

  13. These are fantastic goals. I can’t for the life of me unplug past 6PM…. Maybe after 9…? hahaha
I also need to get myself a spiralizer. Thanks for the reminder!

  14. I can’t remember if you’re a pescatarian or a vegetarian, but I made a delicious zoodle shrimp scampi tonight! No butter, just evoo, diced yellow onion, diced yellow and orange pepper, asparagus, zucchini, carrots, celery, 2 cloves of minced garlic, and 1/2 pound of fresh gulf shrimp!

  15. Those are all such great goals for fall! I have a few goals for myself this fall too, I’d like to unplug a bit more and spend a bit less time on the computer because I feel like I am always on it!

  16. i spy my neighbors house 😉
can’t believe you were on my street and didn’t say hi!! hehe xx
