One of our current favorite things is hosting a game night on the weekends. Oftentimes, after a long week of work, we want to see all of our friends, but don’t necessarily want to battle the Nashville crowds. Enter: game night.
I’m sharing the five things you need to have on hand for the perfect game night over on the La Crema blog today (because you can’t have game night without wine!), so be sure to check that out.
When it comes to food for game night (or any night in!), I like to keep things relatively simple. Last time we hosted, we found that a big bowl of soup and some little grilled cheeses or sliders were the perfect thing for a group. A crowd favorite is always Hawaiian ham and swiss rolls. They are insanely addictive and couldn’t be easier to prep! In fact, you can put them together the night before and keep them in the fridge. Since I’m not a big meat-eater, I made half based on the normal recipe (minus the mayo!), and created some little garlic cheese rolls for the other half. For this, I used one slice of swiss cheese, a sprinkle of pepper jack cheese, mozzarella, and some garlic for each rolls. They were delicious and satisfying and perfect if you have a vegetarian friend or two!
To go along with the soup and sliders, I also put together a few double-decker grilled cheese sandwiches. I went classic American cheese for some, pepperjack and jalapeños for another, and half and half for more! By cutting them into smaller, two-bite pieces, they are easy to grab and eat while still playing cards (or drinking wine).
The key is to keep it simple and to keep the wine flowing. We always have a red and a white (though it seems we lean heavily red most nights!). La Crema’s Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is bold and smooth and an all-around favorite consistently, while La Crema’s Monterey Chardonnay is bright and crisp and deliciously refreshing. Rarely do we end up with leftover wine on game night!
Cheers and happy game night!
